2021 Projects and Symposium
With BlockU, you are encouraged to conduct research and create community engagement projects that relate to your personal and professional development. Every year, the BlockU program provides an opportunity for you to present your work in a scholarly setting of peers, faculty, staff, alumni and other members of the University of Utah community. This year there is a new twist as we are going VIRTUAL!
Steps to a Successful Project & Symposium
Once you have identified your group and your project, one person will need to submit a project proposal. This proposal asks for a description of your project, an itemized budget of what you will need to bring your project to fruition, and important contact information for your group members. Please take your time and be as detailed as possible. Your Block U Peer Advisors will review the proposals and provide feedback within 48 hours from receiving excluding weekends. All proposals are due Thursday, April 1st by 5:00 PM MT.
We want you to be successful when it comes to executing your projects. We have set up specific funding for each block that can be used towards various supplies for your projects. In your previously submitted project proposal, an itemized budget was asked and this is how you request what supplies you need.
- Find URLs and links to the items you want to be purchased.
- Include these URLs and links within your itemized budget in your project proposal. If you need to edit these items, a new project proposal must be submitted.
- Receive a confirmation from blockU@utah.edu that the items have been purchased and estimated arrival dates. All purchases will be shipped to the Sterling Sill Center (195 Central Campus Drive RM 110, Salt Lake City, UT 84112) and can be picked up Monday - Friday between the hours of 8 AM - 5 PM.
Note: The sooner you can submit your budget and proposal the better we can accommodate and fulfill these requests.

You will need to create a digital artifact to be displayed on the Block U website and to assist your virtual presentation. Below is a list curated from previous students, recommended university educational technology, and employer sought-after skills. But feel free to use any kind of technology to create your artifact.
